What We Know About the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident
At least 16 individuals lost their lives and in excess of 40 were wounded when assailants opened fire at a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an attack local authorities are describing as a act of terrorism.
According to the most recent information, officials have announced the death toll remains at 16, including one of the alleged gunmen. Moreover, 42 people with injuries were taken to medical facilities.
The deceased have not yet been formally identified, but authorities state their ages are between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Known as a father of five children, he served as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and acquaintances described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who loved to help people”.
“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a relative asked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.
She told the events before the shooting, stating they were standing when the gunfire erupted. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she stated.
The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
Publicly, a senior official expressed that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the statement continued.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, police have confirmed.
One Israeli Citizen
An Israeli citizen was a fatality in the incident, as per reports citing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
From the 42 people taken to hospitals, a significant number are still under care, with five in critical condition. The injured comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the attackers. Hailed as a hero, he received bullet wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Sources state he was hurt and underwent treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he described the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also noted the response of those who came to assist. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He said he heard “a large number” of gunshots.
“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
