Zelenskyy commented, "It's evident that Moscow is rushing to restart dialogue as soon as it hears about cruise missiles." This statement addressed earlier comments about providing long-range missiles to the Ukrainian military.

Political Developments and Global Responses

A former American diplomat, Dan Fried, commented, "The Russian leader is trying to derail the progress toward greater pressure on Russia." He added, "We'll see on Friday, but the chances of moving toward a truce by pressuring Moscow to get serious appear to have decreased."

This situation followed Trump had in recent days been hardening his rhetoric toward Moscow until Thursday's call with Putin, which the Russian government characterized as "highly open and trustful."

EU Fuel Restrictions and Market Impact

EU authorities have set a mandate for fuel suppliers into the EU to demonstrate their fuels are not made from Russian oil, as stated in a official guideline released on recently. This measure is included in the European Union's forthcoming ban on imports of fuels processed from Russian crude, which forms part of its 18th sanctions package against Moscow over its war in Ukraine.

Financial experts observed that trading patterns appeared to be factoring in the potential reduction of India's purchases of Russian oil. Several Indian refiners are getting ready to cut Russian oil imports, with expectations of a gradual decrease, according to insiders knowledgeable about the situation.

"This is a positive development for the crude oil price as it would eliminate a big buyer of Russian oil," commented Tony Sycamore, noting that crude values were steady on the trading day.

Security Situation and Infrastructure Strikes

A large-scale Russian unmanned aircraft and missile assault targeted energy infrastructure in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, resulting in outages in eight areas. Authorities in Ukraine stated that Russia launched hundreds of unmanned vehicles and dozens of projectiles, along with glide bombs.

"During this fall, the Russians use daily opportunities to attack at our energy infrastructure," said Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noting that attacks affected the regions of Chernihiv, Kharkiv, central Ukraine, northeastern Ukraine and western Ukraine.

International Political Responses

Kyiv's representative to the United States, the Ukrainian ambassador, asserted that Moscow showed its true attitude to negotiations through the "violence" of such strikes. "The Russian government once again opted for weapons over dialogue, making this assault into a clear blow to current peace efforts," Stefanishyna commented.

Meanwhile, the European Union's top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, stated that the European Union had no choice but to build up anti-drone defences against Russian threats. Kallas announced a "plan" to get ready for possible conflict by 2030, including a new defensive network to be fully operational by the end of 2027.

This initiative, dubbed the "European drone defence initiative," is projected to begin working initially by the 2026 timeline and be fully functioning by the following year. Brussels aims to secure the support of EU leaders at a meeting in the coming days.
