Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
