Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Showdown Versus defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder previously helped the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their maiden championship series after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an amazing experience."
The veteran has now hit 23 total playoff homers, ranking him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that situation except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the early in the series, continue to be the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their work in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.
Toronto claimed the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
