The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
