The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

All in all, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the official score of the same name, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have a few changes and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
