Outrage as Beloved South African DJ Killed in the City of Johannesburg.

A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country battling entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Officials stated the forty-year-old entertainer was approached by three individuals, one of whom shot at him before fleeing on foot.

The motive of the attack remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.

Details of the Attack

Law enforcement said that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a building near the Carlton Centre.

He had devoted time at the property overseeing the setup of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, as per local media.

"The report indicates the man was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities stated.

Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a individual with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what resembled a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but collapsed a short distance away.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the attack.

Important clues, like spent shells, were found at the scene.

Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have have information to assist with the investigation.

"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the attack, and investigators have been following their trail to determine their destination," added an official.

Outpouring of Grief

His family member, Nicole Stock, stated the relatives are devastated to process his death.

"I am devastated. I cannot express the pain," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He was a fearless commentator about issues not many people were ready to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."

She appealed to the community to avoid sharing graphic images from the scene, explaining this was an extremely painful time, particularly for Stock's children.

In a communication, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his charisma, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will live on".
